This Privacy Policy describes how Japality Limited ("the Company", "we", "our", "us") handles information when you use the KoreanBean mobile application ("the App"). By using the App you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information stored on your device
Your study activity is stored locally on your device using standard platform storage (iOS / Android secure preferences and local databases). This includes:
- Lessons you have completed and your scores
- Spaced-repetition review schedule
- Achievements you have unlocked
- App preferences (e.g. dark mode)
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly back it up through the platform's own backup mechanism (iCloud Backup or Google Drive Backup). We do not operate any server that receives this data.
1.2 Information we do not collect
We do not collect your name, email, phone number, location, contacts, photos, microphone input, or any account credentials. The App does not require sign-up.
1.3 Voice playback
Korean pronunciation is primarily played from bundled audio files in the App. Where an operating-system speech fallback is used, the text passed to the engine is the Korean phrase shown on screen. We do not record, store, or transmit your voice.
1.4 Fonts
The App uses the open-source Noto Sans KR and Gaegu fonts via the Google Fonts service. Loading these fonts may result in the device making a network request to Google's font servers. This request is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
1.5 Advertising
The App uses Google AdMob to serve a small number of App Open advertisements, such as when the App is opened or returns to the foreground. Ads are not inserted between lesson steps or practice answers. The current ad requests are configured as non-personalized ads.
- Google AdMob may collect identifiers (such as the advertising ID), approximate location derived from IP, product interaction data, advertising data such as ads viewed or ad interactions, crash data, performance data, and basic device information for the purposes of serving, measuring, and improving ads and the advertising SDK.
- On iOS, the App will respect Apple's App Tracking Transparency. You will be asked for permission before the device advertising identifier is used for tracking. If you decline, you can continue using the App and ads may still be shown.
- The App does not currently present a Google User Messaging Platform consent form. If we enable personalized ads or need additional consent controls for a target region, we will update the App and this policy before doing so.

2. How We Use Information
On-device data is used solely to deliver the learning experience: track progress, schedule reviews, render lessons, and unlock achievements.
3. Sharing
We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not share data with third parties except as described above (operating system speech engine, Google Fonts and Google AdMob).
4. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
5. Your Rights
Because we do not collect personal data on a server, there is no remote copy of your information for us to retrieve, modify, or delete. You can:
- Reset progress by removing the App or clearing its storage in OS settings.
- Where applicable (EEA, UK, California), exercise rights under GDPR or CCPA by contacting us. Because we hold no server-side records, most requests can be fulfilled by removing the App.
6. Security
Data on your device is protected by the standard isolation and encryption provided by iOS and Android. We do not transmit progress data, so there is no transit channel to secure.
7. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Material changes (for example, the introduction of advertising) will be reflected here before the change takes effect in the App.
