Privacy Policy
JGV is a local-first genome browser. Your FASTA, BAM, GFF, and other genomic files stay on your device. Japality does not operate an account system and does not upload your genomes to our servers.
Who we are
JGV is published by Japality. Contact: support@japality.com.
What we do not collect
Japality does not receive, store, or analyze:
- Reference genomes, alignments, annotations, variants, or signal tracks you open in the app
- Session JSON, bookmarks, theme, or other viewer settings (these stay in the app’s local documents)
- Your name, email, or an in-app account — there isn’t one
- Location, contacts, photos, health, or payment information
Files you import are copied into the app sandbox so JGV can index and display them. Clearing loaded data unloads tracks; deleting the app removes the sandbox copy. Files you keep in the Files app remain yours.
Advertising
JGV is free and is supported by Google AdMob app-open ads. Ads are not shown on the first two launches, are skipped on cold start, and are capped (at most two per day, and not more often than once every eight hours after the app has been in the background).
When ads run, Google and its advertising partners may collect:
- Device advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS), if you allow tracking
- Advertising data such as ad impressions, interactions, and coarse diagnostics used to serve and measure ads
This data is used for third-party advertising. Japality does not link it to your genomic files or to an account. Google’s practices are described in the Google Privacy Policy and Google advertising policy.
App Tracking Transparency
On iOS 14.5 and later, JGV asks for permission before using the advertising identifier for tracking. You can choose Allow or Ask App Not to Track. Either choice still lets the app work. If you decline, you may see less relevant ads. You can change this later in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
On-device data
JGV stores a last-session file, theme preference, and a small ad-timing file on the device so the viewer can restore your locus and so ads are not shown too often. The app also reads file timestamps when it imports or indexes local files. That information does not leave the device except as described under Advertising.
Children
JGV is a scientific tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
International users
Advertising partners may process advertising identifiers and ad events in the United States and other countries. If you do not want personalized ads, decline tracking when asked, or limit ad tracking in system settings.
Your choices
- Decline tracking in the system prompt, or turn it off in iOS Settings
- Reset the advertising identifier in iOS Settings
- Clear loaded data in JGV (Tracks or Settings) — this does not delete files you stored outside the app
- Delete the app to remove its sandbox copy of imported files and local preferences
- Email support@japality.com with privacy questions
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date. Continued use of JGV after an update means you accept the revised policy.
